If like most people you have limited space it may be best to design a layout to fit the space available. Simply use the track you have to space out as much of the layout as you can and then go out and buy the pieces you need to finish it off.

If you purchase the RMS (Race Management System) by Scalextric you will be able to design your layouts on the computer using the software that comes with it. This software also has pre-designed layouts and all layouts have an option which will display a printable sheet with all the track sections required to build that particular layout.

Design Tips

1. It' s important that the track is designed so that no one lane is more faster or technical that the other. The classic even layout of track is the figure of eight, where both lanes have a bend on both the inside and outside of the track.

2. On less symmetrical tracks the positioning of cross over sections is vital to making both lanes equally as fast.

3. Where two lanes are required, you can't use one cross over section they must be used in even numbers, however when creating a single track layout you can use odd numbers so that one lap consists of one lap around of both lane one and two.

4. A good layout consist of both technical sections such as chicanes or hairpin turns and simpler fast straight sections, and large radius sweeping curves.
